PPS introduces first Trimble TBM Navigation System
German based guidance system manufacturer PPS recently announced the introduction of a TBM navigation solution using latest Trimble Total stations.
„We are the worldwide first manufacturer of underground navigation solutions using the Trimble products for the navigation of underground machinery. Especially here in the US, Canada and Australia a lot of customers requested a guidance solution with Trimble hardware“, said Quirin Poltinger of PPS during the Rapid Excavation & Tunneling Conference in San Diego last week. „Many of our customers do use Trimble Total stations during their daily work, thus making it a logical step“. Having personel being trained with that sensors makes it easier for them to use the PPS guidance solutions. „Furthermore, customers can use their own instruments during service or down times of the originally supplied instrument.“
The robust instruments come with a rugged IP65 rating, thus making it very durable especially in the harsh tunnel environment. The magnetic drive motors make them not only fast, but also resistant to dust and water. Additionally, surveyors can use their own control units to attach to the instrument and start working with work they have to perform. Of course any other Trimble handheld device can be used for that as well.
Here are some more aspects on the new instruments:
- Surveying, imaging and 3D scanning in one powerful solution
- Improved Trimble VISION technology for video robotic control, scene documentation and photogrametric measurements
- Trimble DR Plus for long range and superior accuracy
- Locate2Protect real-time equipment monitoring and Trimble InSphere equipment management
„At PPS we believe that quite a lot of tunnel projects and their surveying crews look forward to using the Trimble products for their TBM navigation as well.“
The new TBM system solutions will be available as of today. A version of the well-known PPS Roadheader (PPS-RH) solutions will be available later this year.
